(New York, NY) — Lawmakers across New York City say they will do everything in their power to stop ICE agents from arresting and deporting law abiding migrants. President Trump says federal authorities can now arrest people at churches and schools as part of his crackdown on migrants here illegally. City agencies have been told to instruct staff to block access for any federal law enforcement trying to get into city schools or buildings searching for migrants. Memos have been sent to city school principals on how to best support students who might be caught up in the immigration crackdown.
New York State Attorney General Letitia James says there are laws in New York that protect immigrants and limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement efforts and those laws should be followed by all New York law enforcement and officials. Mayor Eric Adams insists that federal enforcement should be focused on migrants committing violent crimes.
President Trump is reportedly getting ready to send ten-thousand troops to the U.S. southern border. Reports say the troops will help Border Patrol agents to shut off access to asylum in the U.S., and will use Department of Defense bases to hold migrants awaiting deportation.
