Truck Slams Into Target Store

syndication-usa-today-336

(NORTH BERGEN, N.J.) — Six people were injured after a dump truck struck a tractor-trailer before crashing into a Target store in North Bergen, New Jersey on Friday (Jan. 17, 2025).

An early investigation found that the dump truck was loading rocks and dirt at the top of 71st Street before heading down the steep hill westbound. The driver then lost brakes or control of his vehicle, crossed into the southbound lanes of Tonnelle Avenue, and struck a tractor trailer before crashing through the side wall of the Target around 2:30 p.m. leaving a huge hole in the side of the building.

Officials say the impact from the tractor-trailer slowed down the dump truck, meaning the crash could have been much worse. The most severe injury involved a woman who had to be extricated from the Target bathroom. The dump truck driver also had to removed from his vehicle with minor injuries. All Target employees were accounted for, but a secondary search will be conducted now that the truck has been removed from the store.
