(Los Angeles, CA) — Firefighters continue to do battle with devastating wildfires across Southern California. At least 10 are dead, 10,000 structures, including homes, schools and businesses burned to the ground.  The Los Angeles County Sheriff says his officers have been making heroic rescues of people trapped in their homes and they have also been arresting looters who have made their way through a number of neighborhoods.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is defending the city’s response to the wildfires. During a contentious press conference, reporters questioned her why she went to Ghana, when she had been warned wildfires could break out. She said she would talk about that and more once the fires were out and there is recovery plan in place for Southern California.

Nearly 800 prison inmates are assisting firefighters as they battle the wildfires. They typically earn between 6 and 10 dollars a day for helping out.

Connecticut based Americares has started deploying teams to California to deliver essential items to those who have lost everything. They are handing out bags with items, including toothpaste, deodorant, and band-aids.
