Fare Hikes for MTA Riders

syndication-westchester-county-journal-news-165

(New York, NY) —  Commuters will likely be digging deeper into their pockets next year. There’s a good chance fares are going up for those using the MTA transit system and bridges and tunnels next year. MTA officials approved a budget today that includes a four percent fare hike for those using the subway system, Metro North, Long Island Rail Road and bridges and tunnels starting in August of 2025.

MTA Chair Janno Lieber says they have raise fares to keep up with rising costs. There will still be public hearings on the proposal next year before a fare hike becomes official. The MTA typically raises fares by around four percent every other year.
