(New York, NY) — Chuck Scarborough signed off for the last time, Thursday night from the WNBC anchor desk at Rockefeller Center. The 81 year-old had been with the local network for more than 50 years.  Scarborough told viewers during his final bow that he was hired by WNBC just three months before President Nixon resigned in 1974, in what he says was slow a news cycle compared to today.

He then called on his NBC colleagues to continue to get it right, especially in this “age of algorithms and cable channels herding the citizenry into like-minded silos of A.I., and social media fictions suffocating truth”.

The legendary newsman thanked the TV viewers for trusting him and watching him every night for more than five decades. Scarborough will stay on with WNBC to do special projects.

David Ushery will take Scarborough’s place at the anchor desk at 6 p.m. Ushery will continue in his current role as co-anchor of the NBC 4 PM and 11 PM newscasts.
