(New York, NY) — The U.S. Postal Service and the nation’s parcel carriers are announcing their shipping deadlines for Christmas. The post office says the last mailing date to ensure delivery before Christmas is December 18th for first-class mail and for their Ground Advantage service. UPS says packages will need to be with them by December 19th for their Three Day Select Service. FedEx recommends getting boxes shipped by the 17th for their Ground and Home Delivery options. Each shipper does have faster services, but those options will be more costly.

Meanwhile, New York City is expanding its program that provides lockers for package deliveries. The LockerNYC pilot program allows New Yorkers to receive and send packages using secure lockers on public sidewalks and indoor public locations. The program which started back in April, now has four new locations for a total of 19. DOT officials says the program cuts down on delivery truck hours and is an effort to stop porch pirates.
