(New York, NY) — After a five decade run, WNBC’s Chuck Scarborough announced Thursday night that he will soon stop anchoring the evening and late night news. Scarborough told viewers during the 11 p.m. news that his final night of anchoring for NBC 4 New York will be Thursday, December 12th, at 6pm. The 81-year-old said “50 years, eight months and 17 days after I walked into the door here at the headquarters of the National Broadcasting Company. I will step away from this anchor desk.” He will stay with the station doing special reports.
There was an afternoon news meeting on Thursday where Scarborough broke the news to colleagues. He thanked his co-workers for their dedication to the news business.
WNBC has not said who will fill Scarborough’s very big shoes.
