(New York, NY) — Elton John’s “Tammy Faye” musical has bombed on Broadway. The 25-million-dollar show based on the life of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker only opened last week , but it’s been playing to a lot of empty seats at the Palace Theatre. The producers of “Tammy Faye” have made the decision to cut their losses and close the show for good. The final curtain will come on December 8th. It will have played 24 previews and just 29 regular performances.

The last musical to have such a short run was “KPOP,” back in 2009 which closed after just 17 post preview performances.

“Tammy Faye” was getting a good reception at the London’s  Almeida Theatre, but it only has 350 seats compared to the Palace which holds 1,300. Critics have been unmerciful toward the production, with the New York Post calling it “a disaster of biblical proportions.”
