A new study suggests the link between healthy living and a longer lifespan is even stronger than previously thought.

(San Diego, CA) – New research suggests the link between a so-called “healthy lifestyle” and living longer is even stronger than previously thought. Led by Griffith University in Australia, research says something as simple as taking a nice walk and eating healthier meals can add years to your life.

The study suggests there are five healthy habits people ought to adopt in order to benefit the most. By doing so, people could add up to 11 years to their lifespan. The five habits to keep on the “to do” list include eating a healthy diet, regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, not smoking, and drinking alcohol in moderation. The five steps are said to be twice as strong in terms of the impact on mortality, in comparison to previous estimates.

Medical professionals say it’s never too late to adopt the healthy steps. Specifically, the research points to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer when taking the “five step” advice.
