(West Hempstead, NY) – A bizarre investigation is underway on Long Island. It’s an internal inquiry that’s looking at last week’s alleged shooting of New York State Trooper Thomas Mascia.
The shooting unfolded near Exit 17 on the Southern State Parkway. Trooper Mascia originally told investigators he had responded to a disabled motorist along the side of the highway when he was shot at and hit in the leg. His bodycam was not operating at the time. Mascia said a dark-colored sedan — possibly a Dodge Charger — was the car from which the shots were fired. Since that time there has been a search for the car, which apparently had temporary New Jersey plates.
Originally hailed as a hero, some have questioned Mascia’s story since. And then investigators searched his home in West Hempstead on Monday. Reports have emerged suggesting there’s a probe underway to try and determine if Mascia could have accidentally shot himself in the leg.
