(New York, NY) — New York City public school students are getting an extra day off for the Christmas break, thanks to a 12-year-old who wrote to Mayor Adams and suggested the idea. Christmas Eve falls on a Tuesday, which means students would have to show up for just one school day before the winter break begins Now they wont have to. School leaders and Mayor Adams agreed with Isaac, the letter writer and added the Monday before Christmas to the holiday calendar.

Mayor Adams said they took Isaac’s idea seriously and hopes this decision shows that student’s voices matter. United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew, says staff and teachers are applauding the extra day off.
