(Reno, NV) — The University of Nevada, Reno women’s volleyball team will not play Saturday’s scheduled match against San Jose State University, after some of the players told the university they wanted to forfeit the match in protest of SJSU having a transgender player. The university initially refused to cancel the match, but says it must now forfeit due to not having enough players to compete.

Earlier this week, the match was moved to San Jose State due to security concerns in Reno. The result will go down as a loss for UNR, which becomes the fifth team to forfeit to SJSU this season. All of the other forfeits were also due to the transgender controversy.
