Mayor Adams just can't win, it seems. His attempt to please both of the city's rabid baseball fanbases angered some. October 16, 2024.

(New York, NY) – Is it possible to be both a New York Mets and New York Yankees fan? Most Big Apple baseball supporters say, “no.” But Mayor Eric Adams appears to be trying his hand at supporting both clubs, if his hat is any indication.
Appearing at this week’s New York City Columbus Day Parade, Adams wore a hat that featured both the Mets and Yankees logos — connected by a tiny white X on the front. A native of Queens, Adams has long identified as a Mets fan. And in fact the mayor’s office says Adams is a “long-suffering” Mets fan. So what gives with the hat?
A City Hall spokesperson went on to say Adams is rooting for a Subway Series, in order to make millions of New York-area sports fans happy. The Yankees are well on their way to punching their ticket to the World Series, taking a 2-games-to-none lead over Cleveland — with the Guardians showing little fight in either game. If the can take care of business and secure the ALCS they will win the AL Pennant for the first time since 2009, when the Yankees beat the Phillies in the Fall Classic.
As for the Mets, their path is a bit tougher. With the NLCS knotted at one-game-apiece, the LA Dodgers are a decidedly more difficult foe on the NL side. The Mets last won the NL Pennant in 2015 before falling in the World Series to Kansas City.
Fans took to social media and criticized Mayor Adams choice in lid. Some called it “dumb” and a “travesty.” Queens Councilman Justin Brennan posted on X: “I’m all for Carl Jung and the duality of man, but this is egregious.”
Of course given Adams faces federal charges of bribery and corruption, it’s likely New Yorkers thoughts on his hat are pretty far down on his list of concerns.
