(New York, NY) — Groups of migrant kids have been mugging tourists in Times Square. Police say they are part of an Venezuelan gang. Some of the members are as young as 11-year-olds. The NYPD says the kids started mugging people in Central Park, and have now moved onto to Times Square, where they are grabbing wallets and jewelry from unsuspecting tourists and New Yorkers. The group could be involved in as many as 50 reported crimes.
Police say some of the teens involved have flashed weapons during their muggings, which worries authorities. The NYPD says they have both uniformed and plain clothes cops in Times Square to try and stop the group before they strike again.
Part of the gang initiation, includes a dare to commit crimes. Those who fail to follow the rules are sometimes forced to lick subway station floors.
