(Queens, NY) – City officials are calling for a pause on an e-scooter pilot program that rolled out in Southeast Queens. Local residents have been complaining about safety issues when it comes to the abandoned scooters on the street.

City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams is calling on the Department of Transportation to address some of those safety concerns. Adams penned a letter to the head of the city’s Department of Transportation, Ydanis Rodriguez, calling for an operational pause on the program. The e-scooter program first started back in June. The city partnered with three private companies – Bird, Lime and Veo – to start placing the scooters in Queens to make traveling between places lacking public transportation more convenient. Those three private companies released statements saying they are committed to working with the DOT and claim a pause would hurt residents.
