Cleaning up Milton’s mess

(Tampa, FL)  — The death toll from Hurricane Milton is now at least16. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says search and rescue crews will be out again today helping those in distress and looking for those who did not survive Milton. They made hundreds of rescues of people and pets on Thursday.

In Clearwater, more than 500 people were rescued from a flooded out apartment complex on Thursday. First responders started getting calls of people trapped in rising water hours after Hurricane Milton made landfall Wednesday night.  Cocoa Beach Mayor Keith Capizzi rode out Milton, but admits at one point during the hurricane he was thinking he had made a mistake when the house began to shake from the high winds.

Tampa International Airport has reopened today after workers say the airfield did not suffer any damage from Milton  Many are returning home to find water logged houses or homes that were ripped apart by Milton intense winds. Insurers will likely pay out billions of dollars to homeowners to help them fix or rebuild their houses.
