(Newark, NJ) – Over the summer, what turned out to a bad night for Justin Timberlake ended up with him in handcuffs — facing DWI charges. That was out in Sag Harbor, on Long Island. Tuesday night Timberlake had another down evening, as he was too sick to perform at Newark’s Prudential Center.
Actually, it wasn’t an illness Timberlake cited — rather he said he had a “injury” of some kind that prevented him from performing. But Timberlake only made the announcement 75 minutes before showtime, upsetting many of his fans. The abrupt cancellation — announced on social media at 5:45 PM — gave little notice ahead of the scheduled 7:00 PM start time.
Timberlake did not provide any additional details or rationale behind the cancellation. It’s also unclear if he will be able to perform in Philadelphia on Friday.
Following this summer’s DWI arrest, Timberlake reached a plea deal with Suffolk County prosecutors. It required the singer to plead guilty to misdemeanor traffic violations and pay a fine. Some accused prosecutors of giving the celebrity “special treatment.” But the Suffolk DA denied that was the case.
