(New York, NY) — Mayor Adams went searching for friends at four predominantly black churches over the weekend, telling the faithful he took no bribes from foreign officials in places like Turkey. The  mayor watched on as he received a standing ovation Sunday at Emmanuel Presbyterian Reformed Church in the Bronx. A few hours later on Staten Island, clergy members huddled around Adams and prayed for him. Adams visited four churches in all between Friday and Sunday. Some worshippers say the support the mayor, while others says they wanted him to resign.

It’s been less than a week since Adams was slapped with federal charges including wire fraud, bribery and accepting improper campaign donations. The mayor has said he is innocent and plans to fight the charges while doing his day job as mayor.
