(Tampa, FL) _- Hurricane Helene is moving towards Florida’s Gulf Coast, gaining strength as it goes and threatening to bring high winds and life-threatening storm surge. The latest update from the National Hurricane Center clocks the storm as a Category 2 with maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour. It’s about 320 miles southwest of Tampa, moving towards an expected landfall in the Big Bend area tonight.

Flights are being cancelled or delayed across the Southeast as Helene approaches the Florida Gulf Coast. More than eleven-hundred flights were cancelled in the U.S., many of them into or out of Tampa International Airport which was closed overnight.
