Traffic deaths are up in the city

(New York, NY) —  Traffic deaths continue to rise along with NYPD overtime costs. Those are some of the new numbers found in Mayor Adams annual management report.  The 2024 fiscal year report shows there were 275 traffic deaths during the fiscal year, the highest number since before the pandemic. More than one billion dollars was spent on police overtime, a record high. Major felony crimes are down on the fiscal year including an 18 percent drop in shootings and 15 percent drop in murders. The number of minor summonses handed out for things like fare evasion and drinking in public increased by 34 percent.
