Two former FDNY chiefs were arrested in connection to a corruption investigation. September 16, 2024.

(New York, NY) – FBI agents arrested two former FDNY chiefs early Monday — as part of an ongoing federal corruption investigation. Months after their homes were raided, both Anthony Saccavino and Brian Cordasco have been charged with crimes. They’re accused of using their position within the department to benefit financially — by prioritizing certain FDNY issues.
Between 2021 and 2023, prosecutors say the scheme netted Cordasco and Saccavino upward of $100,000 each. An indictment indicates the pair took bribes in connection to at least 30 different projects. They allegedly prioritized building inspections in exchange for cash — then deposited the money into various bank accounts to try and cover their tracks.
Newly appointed FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker has vowed the full cooperation of his department during the investigation. He notes all FDNY members swear an oath to conduct themselves with honesty and ethics.
The official charges that Saccavino and Coradsco face include bribery, corruption, and false statements.
