(Washington, DC) — House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michal McCaul is ordering Secretary of State Antony Blinken to testify on the U.S. pullout from Afghanistan. Blinken was issued a subpoena yesterday to appear as part of the GOP-led effort to investigate the Biden administration’s withdrawal from the country in 2021.
A terror attack during the withdrawal took the lives of 13 U.S. service members and around 170 Afghan civilians. A State Department spokesperson said Blinken has already testified about Afghanistan more than 14 times and isn’t available for any of the dates proposed by the committee.
McCaul is threatening to hold Blinken in contempt of Congress if he doesn’t appear.
