(New York, NY) – Big changes this school year at the Morningside Heights campus of Columbia University, following last year’s protests tied to the Israel Hamas war. There’s no camping allowed anymore on campus and students must show ID to security before being let on campus.
Columbia made headlines last year for student protests and encampments that at one point forced police to move in after students took over a building. Columbia’s task force on anti-Semitism released a report last week that detailed incidents of harassment and violence against Jewish students.
Meanwhile, Pro-Palestinian protesters showed up outside Columbia University on the school’s first day of classes. Dozens of students marched outside one of the entrances. The new rules in place this semester are meant to prevent protests on campus that happened frequently last semester.
