(Brooklyn, NY) – A former aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who allegedly was working as a foreign agent for China, is pleading not guilty. Former head of New York State Homeland Security Michael Balboni said 41-year-old Linda Sun allegedly used her access to help push China’s agenda with New York officials.
Sun and her husband Christopher Hu were taken into custody Monday morning following an FBI raid of their Long Island, Manhasset home earlier this summer. According to a 64-page indictment, Sun acted as a foreign agent for China and she’s being accused of blocking representatives from Taiwan’s government from visiting the New York governor’s office. The indictment also alleges that Sun made millions of dollars as a foreign agent of China, and Sun and Hu allegedly laundered kickbacks to purchase their multi-million-dollar home.
Federal prosecutors say Sun and her husband illegally got millions of dollars wired to their accounts, which they used to buy a multi-million-dollar home in Manhasset, Long Island, a condo in Hawaii and a Ferrari. The couple is being released on bail, and were ordered not to have any contact with officials at the Chinese Consulate or Mission.
