Pentagon Deploying Forces To Middle East

syndication-wilmington-star-news-3

The US Navy is sending the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and the USS Georgia guided missile submarine to the Middle East region with tensions rising.

(Washington, DC) – The US military will be deploying additional forces to the Middle East. Pentagon officials say this is the result of “escalating regional tensions” in the war between Israel and Hamas — as well as added pressure between Iran, Israel, and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

An Israeli air strike over the weekend only served to heighten tensions, which have been on high alert for the better part of two weeks — after a top Hamas official was assassinated in Iran. Then, overnight, Hezbollah launched upward of 30 rockets into southern Israel from Lebanon. So, the US will be “strengthening” its Middle East forces in response.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt was scheduled to be replaced toward the end of the month, but now it will remain — and be joined by the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and the USS Georgia guided missile submarine. The Lincoln contains F-35-C fighters. All the while the White House continues to push for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
