(Paris, France) – Team USA gymnast Jordan Chiles must give back her bronze medal that she was awarded this past Monday in the women’s floor exercise. That’s according to a decision from the International Olympic Committee. The move comes after a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) who found that the Team USA coach contested the difficulty rating 4 seconds past the 60 second deadline.
The US Olypmic and Paralympic Committee said that it would appeal that ruling. In a statement they claim they “firmly believe that Jordan rightfully earned the bronze medal”. USA Gymnastics also put out a statement over the weekend saying they were “devastated” by the ruling. Chiles posted about the ruling on social media saying she is taking a break from being online for the sake of her mental health.
