(Albany, New York) – There will no longer be realistic active shooter drills in public schools across the state. The New York State Board of Regents made the decision to ban them after years of complaints from parents and lawmakers, who believe the drills were traumatizing some students. Schools will still do mandatory drills, but they will no longer include props or actors to simulate a real active shooter scene.
