USA took the top two spots at the podium with Kiefer getting the gold and Scruggs securing the silver medal.

Scruggs made history as the first Black woman to win a medal in individual fencing. She is also the second LGBTQ+ competitor to make it to the podium in Paris. Scruggs grew up in Queens and started fencing with her brother at a camp in Brooklyn. She also attends Harvard University and studies philosophy.
