The word from NBC News is that former President Barack Obama plans to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris "soon," in her bid to win the White House. July 25, 2024.

(Washington, DC) – As the Democratic party rallies around Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the next election, most of the party’s leaders have spoken out in support of her campaign. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have all endorsed VP Harris. But a notable holdout remains. Former President Barack Obama has yet to endorse Harris — something many pundits have noticed.

President Biden almost immediately endorsed his former running mate in her run for the White House — after he announced his exit from the race last Sunday. A report in the New York Post, published Wednesday, suggested Obama was highly upset with Harris as the potential nominee. The report further said Obama doesn’t think Harris can win against former President Trump. But now a new report says Obama was just biding his time. NBC News reports Obama will endorse Harris “soon.”

The reporting from NBC says former President Obama and Vice President Harris have held meetings in recent days. Obama is reportedly supporting Harris behind closed doors, even if he’s yet to do so publicly. The Post’s report said Obama preferred former astronaut Mike Kelly as the Democrats’ nominee. NBC says Michelle Obama also supports Harris’ candidacy — some have floated the former first lady as a potential pick for the Democrats.
