(New York, NY) – City Hall is rolling out out brand new gun scanner technology in select subway stations this week to detect riders who try to carry weapons onto the subways. Mayor Eric Adams says the metal detectors, made by Evolv are part of one of his pilot program to make the New York City subway system safer. Evolv’s devices look like the metal detectors often found at courthouses and baseball stadiums. The company says that the devices are programmed, with the “signatures” of certain items, which allows them to detect weapons. Mayor Adams says the detectors will not cause any lines in stations. He believes once the pilot program is over, subway entrance gun detectors will become the new norm at stations across the system.
