(New York, New York) – July 17th is known as national hot dog day! The American hot dog came to life in the best city in the world, New York. Starting in the late 1860’s when Charles Feltman invented the hot dog as a convenient way for beachgoers to enjoy frankfurter sausages on a long sliced bun without the hassle of plates or silverware. In 1871, Feltman opened up the first Coney Island hot dog stand and set an example for the nation.
