(New York, NY) – After nearly two years of serving as the head of New York City Firefighters, Laura Kavanaugh has given Mayor Eric Adams the heads up that she plans to step down. That’s according to official reports from NBC News 4. Kavanaugh made history as the first female commissioner of the department.
Commissioner Kavanaugh never actually served as a firefighter herself, before she worked with the FDNY she had a political background working on the campaigns of former Mayor Bill de Blasio and President Obama.
City Hall has already started putting out feelers to replace Kavanaugh, who has agreed to remain in her role until that successor is found.
