(New York, NY) – Officials out in Nassau County say they are cracking down on any illegal fireworks this Fourth of July holiday and throughout the summer.
New York, New Jersey and Connecticut all prohibit the use and sale of fireworks statewide. Even those that are legally bought across state lines in Pennsyvlania, they cannot be brought back or you can face potential felony charges. Out on Long Island and in the 5 boroughs of New York City, sparklers are illegal for customer use.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman says that people should leave it to the professionals and go to a local park or location of a permitted display. Police in Nassau also say that you should avoid buying or using fireworks off the street because you don’t know what they really contain. Around 10 thousand people get injured every year setting off fireworks.
