(Queens, NY) — Search crews have combed 600 miles of ocean hoping to find two teenagers who went missing in the waters off Jacob Riis Park on Friday.  The boys, age 16 and 17, entered the water Friday evening, just after lifeguards had clocked out for the day. Eyewitnesses say they failed to resurface after being swept up by a large wave.

The mother of one of the missing teenagers took to Facebook Live asking for prayers from everyone watching her.

On Friday, first responders, including the Coast Guard swarmed the beach and dove into the ocean in a frenzied search for the teenagers. The lifeguards at Jacob Riis went off duty at 6 p.m.  The teens went into the ocean a short time later. There were red flags on the sand that warned of  strong currents. NYPD divers were in the ocean until sunset on Friday and then were back on Saturday, but neither of the boys were found.

The Coast Guard says their thoughts remain with the children’s families during this difficult time.
