Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin sign mutual defense pact

syndication-usatoday-153

(New York, New York) The two world leaders signed the defense pact during a summit as Putin visited Pyongyang, the capital of the secretive nation. The pact includes a pledge that if either country is attacked, the other will help. It’s believed that this strategic partnership can help prolong the war between Russia and Ukraine as North Korea can help supply munitions while Russia can help enhance North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile programs.

The summit marks the first time Putin visited the country in 24 years. Putin last visited Pyongyang in 2000 to improve ties with Kim’s father, Kim Jong Il. The current North Korean leader’s visit to Russia’s far east last year offered signs of the deepening relationship.
