(New York, NY) —  New York City will bake this week as the first heatwave of 2024 arrives. Temperatures will rise into the 90s on Tuesday and will keep rising until Friday when the high could be 97 degrees. It will be very humid too, which means there could be pop-up thunderstorms.

Governor Hochul has sent out a warning to New Yorkers to take it easy while outside and to check on vulnerable neighbors. New York City will open up some cooling centers for those who have no air conditioning. Temps are expected to cool down just a bit by the weekend.

The last heatwave to hit the city was all the way back in September of 2023.
