(Yonkers, New York) – The Yonkers community is outraged after a teen was given probation by a judge after his reckless driving left a Yonkers Police Seargent dead. The teen at the time had his learners permit for two weeks. The boy, 16, lost control of his sports car and crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic, fatally striking Sergeant Frank Gualdino in his unmarked cruiser.

He was originally charged with vehicular manslaughter, but the case was moved down to a family court because of the Raise the Age law. Several Yonkers lawmakers, friends of the officer, the officer’s widow and Mayor Mike Spano are all calling for justice to be served to the reckless teen, and the law to be looked into. Sergeant Gualdino was a 24-year veteran of the Yonkers Police Department and set to retire later that year. The officer leaves behind a wife and two children.
