Fallen NJ National Guard Members Remembered

(Trenton, NJ) – Governor Phil Murphy is remembering four New Jersey National Guard members who were killed in action 20 years ago. The four fallen servicemembers were killed in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In a statement, Governor Murphy said “twenty years after these servicemembers made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our state and country, we continue to honor their valiance, bravery, and courage.”

Notably the first and only New Jersey National Guard casualties in Iraq, Staff Sergeants Frank Carvill, Humberto Timoteo, Sergeant Ryan Dolz, and Specialist Christopher Duffy were killed. Their convoy was attacked by a when his convoy was attacked by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and rocket-propelled grenades in Baghdad. Governor Murphy’s statement notes “we owe a debt of gratitude to all of our fallen heroes, and today we honor four of our bravest.”
