A barn was flattened after a tornado hit on May 24, 2024 near Frytown, Iowa.

(Cooke County, TX) – Following reports of at least 11 tornadoes on Sunday, upwards of 18 people are dead — following more severe weather in the Midwest. These most recent storms hits in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kentucky. It follows similar weather — and tornadoes — that have struck. In recent weeks, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Tennessee have also dealt with the threat of tornadoes.

President Biden released a statement of condolences following the most recent 18 deaths across the four states. He notes federal agencies are completing their assessments and standing by to assist affected communities. Across 13 different states, more than 600,000 are without power.

Unfortunately, severe weather is expected to continue to batter the Midwest on Memorial Day.
