(Wildwood, NJ) – If you are hitting the beach this Memorial Day weekend, there have been some updates to what is and what isn’t allowed. If you want to stay in the shade on the shore, you may want to avoid town beaches in New Jersey that are banning tents.
Lifeguards at Wildwood New Jersey will be patrolling the beach and banning anyone that shows up with any structures like cabanas, canopies or tents. They say that the decision was prompted by beach erosion meaning that real estate on the sandy shore is limited.
Wildwood is joined by two other New Jersey summer spots: Brick Township beach and Island Beach State Park.
Meanwhile in New York, not all sections of city beaches will be opening for the long weekend as the lifeguard shortage continues affecting operations. So far less than half of the 600 guards needed to fully staff city beaches have been hired.
Rather than closing beaches entirely, guards will segment off specific areas as all 8 beaches are set to open this Saturday, May 25th.
