(Bangkok) — Singapore Airlines says a passenger died Tuesday during a flight that experienced severe turbulence. The incident happened on board a Boeing 777 during a Singapore-to-London flight. A post on the Singapore Airlines Facebook page confirmed additional injuries, but did not provide details on how many were hurt. There were over 200 passengers and 18 crew members on the flight. It was diverted to Bangkok.

A 28-year-old passenger who was onboard the flight, told Reuters that the aircraft suddenly tilted upwards and began violently shaking. He says the plane then suddenly dropped. The flier says there were passengers who were out of the seats when the turbulence hit and some of them hit the ceiling. Others who were not belted in also were hurt.
