It’s Been 70 Years Since Brown vs. Board of Education

President Biden pictured alongside marchers carrying signs and chanting slogans during a "Unity Parade" in May 2014 marking 60 years since the Brown vs. the Board of Education decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to desegregate public schools in 1964.

(Washington, DC) – It’s been 70 years since the landmark Supreme Court decision Brown vs. Board of Education, which outlawed racial segregation in public schools.

Prior to that decision in 1954, the prevailing standard had been, “separate but equal,” under Plessy vs. Ferguson.

President Biden marked the 70th anniversary with remarks he delivered at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. He then went on to accuse former President Trump and other Republicans of trying to “erase history” by taking DEI efforts. DEI, also known as diversity, equity, and inclusion, refers to programs that are similar to affirmative action. Many conservatives say they are rooted in a “woke” ideology that places an emphasis on identity politics rather than a person’s abilities.

This comes as Biden looks to curry favor with black voters. On Sunday he will deliver the commencement speech at Morehouse College, a Historically Black College or University.
