(New York, New York) – Facebook Marketplace users in the city have been under attack this year. The NYPD is looking into a string of robberies that stem as far back as December 29th. Police are saying that the two men they’re looking for dress up as car salesmen and go around the boroughs robbing potential sellers or buyers from Facebook Marketplace. They’ve done it at least nine times now since December and most recently, May 7th. Officials say that at least two times, they’ve gotten away with $10,000 in cash and other times, they’ve stolen the cars of their victims.

The suspects use a variety of weapons from guns, to metal bats to intimidate their victim. The NYPD says the best way to stay safe is by making sure all your Marketplace transactions occur in safe spaces, such as in front of any of the 77 police precincts where they have designated spaces for transactions with cameras rolling at all times.
