(Farmingdale, New York) – Farmingdale has joined the list of school districts with armed guards on Long Island. The cost could run the school system up to one million dollars per year. Parents across the district seem to have mixed emotions on the topic. Some say there’s no limit on how much money you can spend on safety, while others say they’re against guns and don’t want them anywhere near their kids or their schools. The Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association said that the decision to hire armed guards to protect their kids was a painful one that they had to make. Right now, 17 school districts in Long Island have armed guards in their schools, while more districts are keeping the idea on their radar.
