(New York, NY) — NYPD cops are searching for a man who sucker punched a female NYU worker in the face in Washington Square Park Wednesday morning. The man fled after attacking the 27-year-old around 10:30 a.m. She suffered swelling and bruising from the punch. The university sent out a campus wide safety alert, warning students that the wanted man was on the loose. Police have a description of the attacker, but they have made no arrests.

The NYU punch follows a series of unprovoked attacks by men on women, mostly in Manhattan. NBC News reports that 50 women have reported similar sucker punch incidents in the city over the last month. Police say they have made a few arrests. It’s unclear how many men are behind the attacks. Mayor Eric Adams says he is concerned about the random attacks on women.  Adams says the violence against women is traumatizing.

Social media influencer Halley Kate recently posted on TikTok that she was walking down a Manhattan street in the middle of the day when, out of no where, a man punched her in the face. Since then, several other TikTokkers have shared similar experiences of being the victims of unprovoked attacks, pointing out their bruises and other injuries.
