(New York, NY) — An 11-year-old boy is recovering today after being shot in the arm in Brownsville, Brooklyn on Monday night. It’s not clear if the bullet was meant for him. The shooting took place on the third floor of the Ocean Hill-Brownsville NYCHA complex around 11 p.m. The pre-teen was rushed to a local hospital in stable condition. Building residents say they heard the gunfire, but have no idea what prompted it. Detectives could be seen canvassing the apartment complex for eyewitnesses.

Neighbors say the 11-year-old victim is not someone who would be in a gang or in trouble. They describe him as an outgoing friendly kid. Police are searching through nearby surveillance cameras for clues that will lead them to the shooter.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) All calls are kept confidential.
