All Too Familiar Flooding Fears for North Jersey

syndication-the-record-158

A woman walks along Bridge Street over the Passaic River in Paterson, New Jersey amid ongoing flood concerns.

(Paterson, NJ) – After unrelenting rain this week, numerous rivers in New Jersey remain at or near flood stage, and that comes after a winter filled with heavy rainfall and persistent flooding concerns. That’s especially true along the Passaic River, which flooded into Paterson in recent months.

Around 5:00 AM Friday, the bridge’s water level was still rising near the bridge at West Broadway and Memorial Drive. Residents have dealt with water going into homes and flooding out streets in recent months. Now, the Passaic River is expected to crest at 3:00 PM Friday.

It’s not just the Passaic River dealing with concerns — the Saddle River also reached flood stage on Thursday. And in Bogota, Bergen County, a 100-year-old oak tree was brought down and crashed into a home. The facade of a building collapsed in North Bergen. And thousands of homes and buildings lost power as a result of downed trees and power lines.
