(Albany, NY) — Governor Kathy Hochul is urging New Yorkers to prepare for a strong storm that is forecasted to bring snow and sleet upstate and lots of rain downstate. The Capital Region, Upper Mid Hudson and other areas upstate may see six to 12 inches of snow through Wednesday night. Higher elevation areas in the Adirondacks and Catskills could get up to two feet of snow. That could lead to rough driving conditions, and some power outages. New York City, Long Island and the lower Mid Hudson regions are forecast to get two to three inches of rain, which could cause some flooding in low lying and poor drainage areas.

Thunderstorms are moving across the Southeast to the Ohio Valley today, bringing the risk of tornadoes, high winds and damaging hail. The storms hit parts of the country hard Monday from Texas to Illinois, with at least three tornadoes reported in Oklahoma and hailstones the size of baseballs. The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a tornado watch for parts of central Kentucky and southern Indiana.
