(New York, NY) — Staten Island’s Wagner College Seahawks are heading to the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament. They’re the first local team to be invited to the big dance after their stunning upset win over Merrimack Tuesday night in the NEC Tournament Championship game. Wagner head coach Donald Copeland telling his players “You are Champions forever” It marks the first time since 2003 that the Seahawks will take part in March Madness, Wagner will wait until Selection Sunday to see who they will play in the first round. The NCAA Tournament gets underway with the first four on Tuesday March 19th
The Seahawks know they will be a 16 seed, but that does not faze them. They point to last year’s NEC champs. Fairleigh Dickinson University, who as a 16 seed, beat number one Purdue.
