Why Did the FBI Raid FDNY Headquarters?

mixcollage-15-feb-2024-04-31-pm-4086

Federal agents executed search warrants at FDNY headquarters and two homes connected to two top FDNY chiefs.

(Brooklyn, NY) – Federal agents and New York City inspectors took part in a search at FDNY headquarters on Thursday in Downtown Brooklyn. Reports say this is in connection to an ongoing investigation probing whether FDNY officials accepted cash payments, in order to speed up safety inspections. Raids were also reportedly conducted at the homes of FDNY Chiefs Brian Cordasco and Anthony Saccavino — who oversee safety inspections.

While neither Chiefs Cordasco nor Saccavino have been officially accused of wrongdoing, both have been placed on modified duty while the investigation continues. Homes in Brooklyn and Staten Island were apparently searched.

It’s worth nothing — although we don’t know if there’s any connection — that federal investigators are probing Mayor Eric Adams’ fundraising efforts, and that inquiry has looked at FDNY operations. For example, after a Turkish construction company made a donation to Adams’ campaign, a report emerged suggesting the Turkish Consulate had its fire department safety inspection “fast tracked.”
